Lisa and I have been attending New York Comic Con at Javits Center for years. This time we went straight past the exhibition halls and took the freight elevators for a tour of Javits Center’s green roof.

The 6.75-acre green roof atop of Javits Center is about the size of 5 American football fields, and it looks like it too. It is covered in large grids of sedum. According to our guide, there are 29 species of birds and 5 species of bats that call Javits Center their home. But we only saw seagulls on this visit. They lay eggs and raise their chicks there.

Also calling the rooftop home are thousands of honeybees. Their hives are tucked in a corner. Honey harvested from the hives are called Jacob’s Honey.
